please help with domains?

Query on unlimited domains hosting: I want to set up my own web page, and first I have to register a
domain. I found a regisrty, and it says that I get 5 subdomains, and i
get acess to the following features:

Private Domain Registration
Host Unlimited Domains from this website
Subdomains 5
Host External Domains 5
DNS Management
Domain forwarding
URL Masking
Domain Contact Management
Domain Access with or without "www"

I’m not quite sure what all of those things are.

What are subdomains?

What does it mean when it says "Host External Domains"?

Will I be able to make as many mages to my website as I wish, or am I
limited to 5?

  1. You can make your web site as complex as you wish. An example of a domain is mydomain.com a sub-domain would be www.mydomain.com and private.mydomain.com (just as examples)

As far as the number of pages, and sub-pages, those are not considered sub-domains.

  2. Go with GoDaddy.com. Great service.

Private Domain Registration keeps your registration information private and not accessible. Nice feature, but not worth paying extra for if they require it.

Host unlimited domains means you can host as many domains as you need to register without transferring the records to another hosting service.

Subdomains are domains you can create to easily get people to different sections of your website. For example, we created the subdomain support.mallardcomputer.com to go to our support website, and mobile.mallardcomputer.com to go to our mobile website. GoDaddy offers 90.

Host external domains will allow you to host domains you’ve registered from another provider.

DNS management is important. You can fine tune your control of your domain.

Domain forwarding is great. You can forward your domain to wherever you will be hosting your site.

URL masking is a nice touch. Plugs into subdomains.

Domain contact management lets you update your contact info anytime you need to.

Domain access without www is vital. That’ll get people to your site just by typing in the domain.

You can have as many site pages on your site as you want as long as you have the space to hold them. The more space, the more pages. We have 20GB of space & are only using about 100 MB.

  3. As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . As an experienced webmaster I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. Their service is really great and easy to use. This company also offers "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get).

  4. "Host External Domains" means you can host some other domains on your hosting server. That means you can host up to 5 extra domains. Your webpages are not counted as domain. So you can put as many pages as you wish under one domain. For subdomain, lets say you have a brother and he want to get a website too but he doesn’t want to buy a domain name. So you can make him website by giving him a subdomain.
For instance, your domain name is "mike.com". Your brother john can get a sub domain called "john.mike.com" Hope this explains abit.

  5. Domain is something.com
    subdomains are

    one.something.com
    two.something.com
    somethingelse.something.com

But why do they limit them at 5.
Most hosts offer unlimited subdomains and
they offer you unlimited domains also,
so you can create a couple sites with different domain names
either registered externally (with some other company and pointed
to your hosting) or with the same company you bought hosting with and host them all within the same account.
    Check one of these:

    1. Godaddy has a couple of nice plans:
    http://www.hosttell.com/godaddy/

    2. For $5.78/month I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but they currently have a promotion. You can use the promo code PLUS at sign up page and get the $50 discount + 2 Free domain names. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month). You can use their huge Disk Space and host unlimited number of sites on a single plan.

    Disk space: 500 GB
    Bandwidth: 5000 GB
    2 Free domain names
    Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)
